Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) is a semiconductor foundry, which operates through its subsidiaries. The Company operates three eight-inch wafer fabrication facilities in its Shanghai mega-fab located in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Shanghai, China, an eight-inch wafer fab in Tianjin, China and a 12-inch wafer fab in its Beijing mega-fab located in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area in Beijing, China. In addition, SMIC has a 12-inch fab in Shanghai engaged primarily in research and development activities, and an eight-inch fab under construction in Shenzhen. SMIC provides semiconductor fabrication services using 0.35 micron to 45 nanometer process technology for devices, such as logic technologies, memory technologies and specialty technologies.
